Wise, Box announce retirements from Post Oak Savannah Groundwater Conservations District

Steven Wise, Post Oak Savannah Groundwater Conservation District (POSGCD) Board member, announced his retirement from the board effective following the Aug. 8 board meeting. Steven was appointed by the Milam County Commissioner’s Court in 2013 to represent at-large interests.

Rockda le Chr ist ian Church is starting the mission of distributing bibles to people in Rockdale who do not have a bible or access to one. The church believes that knowledge of God’s word is necessary for the salvation of the world and our souls.

REUNIONS

Holliman-Tuma Family Reunion set for Sept. 3 The 92nd annual Holliman- Tuma Reunion will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 3, at Rockdale VFW, 978 W. Cameron. A fully-catered barbecue meal of beef brisket and sausage with all the trimmings will be served at noon for $17 for adults.

‘MARC Madness’ at First Friday Coffee

MARC was the host of August’s First Friday Coffee and it was one of the most well-attended in recent memory. Plenty of delicious food and desserts were waiting for the MARC consumers when they arrived by bus.

MORE BACKPACK BLESSING

St. John’s United Methodist Church had a big crowd last Sunday for backpack blessing with lots of kids, teachers and coaches on hand.

SCHOOL SUPPLY GIVEAWAY

Meadowbrook Baptist Church handed out over 50 backpacks filled with school supplies at a one-day vacation bible school for students from kindergarten to 8th grade. After which, the church fed the families of the students. Leftover supplies were donated to the RISD campuses.

CEMETERY CLEANUP

CEMETERY CLEANUP— A group of volunteers came together for another cleanup day at St. Joseph Cemetery by mowing, edging, trimming trees and raking. Over 20 people took part in the cleaning and were treated to lunch prepared by Frank and Johnnie Diaz.

God is for me

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (Psalm 119:105) Sometimes I feel like I’m becoming an old church guy who is against everything. They say old people are already mad about being old, so it doesn’t take much to tick them off. Ouch!
