I’ve been thinking about our fair lately. I’m not sure why. Maybe it’s because it’s such a big deal. It’s got a stock show, carnival, BBQ cook off, rodeo, quilts, jars of jelly and music. I remember several years a go Jerry Jeff Walker was the headliner and who doesn’t like Jerry Jeff Walker.

As part of Rockdale Earth Day’s mission to educate on things related to the environment, four books were donated by the organization to the Lucy Hill Patterson Memorial Library at First Friday Coffee.

It was a fun night at the Rockdale Junior High gym on Monday night as members of the community, teachers, administrators, parents and school board members played donkey basketball. They gym was packed with spectators enjoying the entertainment.

All of these eighth graders entered the annual Rockdale Earth Day poster contest for 2023. The students are under the direction of at teacher Lani Young. The winner of the contest was Jadon Moody who received a $25 gift certificate from the good folks at Corona’s Mexican Restaurant downtown.

A Black History Month program was held in Cameron’s Ledbetter Park Saturday, Feb. 18. Rockdale’s own Angela White gave a message about mental health and stigma within the black community.

Bring CASA to Milam County recently became CASA of Milam County thanks to receiving their 501(3) c non-profit status. Their first donation since getting this designation was from Alpha One Chevrolet Buick.

The Milano Volunteer Fire Department held their annual fundraiser on Saturday and it was another huge success raising over $35,000 through a chili dinner with all the trimmings and both live and silent auctions. There was also live music, as seen in the photo, and a drawing for guns.
