Christmas trees strung with colored lights and covered in ornaments and other trinkets are staples of the holiday season. Finding the perfect tree and decorating it is as much a Christmas tradition as eggnog and bad gifts from distant aunts and uncles.

That’s how many free turkey-and-all-the-trimmings plates were served Saturday in the First Baptist Church in the annual Thanksgiving meal. Above (L-R) Linda Thompson, Terrilynn Jones, Geraldine Amugo and Margie Cook filled plates as fast as they could be carted off (bottom photo).

There was an almost continuous line from the start of the annual free Community Thanksgiving Luncheon, held Saturday in the fellowship hall of First Baptist Church. Volunteers from several congregations served 910 plates of turkey, dressing, gravy, green beans, corn, bread and cake.

Saturday was the more or less official kickoff to the holiday season in Rockdale, highlighted by the first Whistle Stop Wine Tour, sponsored by the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce.

Parking lots at First Presbyterian Church, 1600 Alcoa, turned into showrooms for some vintage vehicles Saturday morning. Occasion was the church’s third annual Fall Fest and Classic Car Festival which drew the largest number of entries yet.
