MHS baseball ends with loss to Holland

Milano High School’s baseball season came to an end Friday afternoon with a 12-0 loss to Holland in Milam County. Oscar Hernandez led at the plate with one hit in the bottom of the first inning. Marcos Ruelas pitched for the Eagles, striking out three in 4.1 innings.

Playoff baseball coming to Thorndale

Even though the playoffs haven’t started, the Thorndale Bulldog baseball team has already started the most challenging part of the season. They went into last week with a district record of 11-1, tied for first with Thrall, Texas High School Baseball’s 10th-ranked team in Class 2A.

Van Cleave named Tiger track coach

On Friday, Temple High School coach Chris Van Cleave announced via Twitter that he was named the head boys track and field coach at Rockdale High School. A graduate of Little River-Academy, Van Cleave was looking to get back to a similar-sized area. “I’m from a small town,” Van Cleave said.

RJH golf, tennis district tourneys Rockdale Junior golfers started their district tournament Tuesday afternoon in Caldwell after press time. Results will be posted on Reporter social media. RJH tennis players will play in the district tournament Saturday at Georgetown’s East View High School.

Rockdale High School’s track and field season came to an end Saturday after 10 athletes competed at the Region III meet at Waco’s Midway High School. Tiger coach Lewis Edmonson said RHS saw some great competition. “Those kids that they ran against are on a completely different level,” he said.

Mariana Casarez ended her high school softball career going four-for-four in Monday night’s 12-6 win over Caldwell, which included a six-run burst in the second inning by the Lady Tigers with hits from Casarez, Brande Breithaupt and a home run by Salome Cardona.

Lady Dogs open playoffs Friday

It took the Lady Dogs a little bit of time getting used to the speed of Class 6A softball in Friday’s post-season warm-up game with Hutto, but by the third inning, their offense came alive. THS was tied with the Lady Hippos going into the top of the third when lead-off batter Emilee Baker walked.

Tigers beat Hornets 4-2

Rockdale snapped a two-game losing streak Monday evening, taking down Caldwell 4-2 to split their series with the Hornets. The Tigers took advantage early with Drayton Castaneda stealing a couple of bases and scoring on a Mario Casarez ground out.
