Rockdale PBR star Mitchell continues to climb in rankings

Rockdale native and professional bull rider Ezekiel “Blue” Mitchell and the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) were forced into a five-week hiatus on March 14 because of COVID-19. Like most obstacles in his life, Mitchell found a way through it and has found a way to continue to excel.

UIL lifts broadcast ban for 2020 football season

The UIL announced that they will allow schools to broadcast Friday night football games during the 2020 season last week. This is a change to the organization’s longtime limitations, in response to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.

2020 Tiger football team rides high in college offers, polls

Colleges and universities are taking note of the talent on the Rockdale football team, after preseason polls ranked the Tigers as high as No. 7 in the state. Five members of the senior class have secured offers to play football at the next level with 40 offers between them.

Softball makes a comeback

Two Rockdale Girls Softball League teams took the field on Monday, after a week long hiatus due to a player contracting COVID-19. The Aztec Warriors secured their first victory in the 12 and under division in dominant fashion as they beat G.R.I.T. 17-0.

The eighth annual Milam County Aggie Moms Golf Tournament has been rescheduled for Aug 1. Shot gun start times will be at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the Rockdale Country Club. The event is open to golfers of all ages. Entry fee is $75 dollars per player, which includes a mulligan, lunch and carts.

Risk taking offers rewards

Steve Nash ranks as one of the most underrated basketball players of my generation. His crafty passing and ability to control the pace of the game was something to be admired. Despite his many accolades, many feel that Nash lacks the credit he deserves.

Tigers rank seventh in polling

As football season inches closer, TexasFootball.com released their Class 3A Division 1 Preseason Rankings this past Thursday. The Rockdale Tigers came in at No. 7. “I’m not a big fan of rankings because they don’t mean very much,” said RHS Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Jacob Campsey.

RISD girls workouts postponed due to COVID

On Monday, RHS officials postponed girls’ summer workouts for two weeks due to an undisclosed athlete testing positive for the COVID-19 virus. The athletes will be re-evaluated upon their return.
