RISD keeps $1.36 tax rate

As promised, the Rockdale ISD has kept the current $1.36 tax rate for 2018-19. Meeting in regular session Monday in the Central Administration Building, trustees also heard a report on the opening of school and decided to negotiate for property near Tiger Field.

33 indicted by grand jury

CAMERON—Thirty-three persons were indicted Thursday in the August grand jury session at 20th District Court, according to Prosecutor Bill Torrey who listed case dispositions as follows: • Thomas Wesley Owens, 27, Bryan, theft of firearm.

‘Preschool Discovery Days’ now enrolling here at First Baptist First Baptist Church “Preschool Discovery Days” enrollment has begun and classes will begin Sept. 4 according to Janet Vaughn, director. Classes will be Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. for ages 2 through 5, she said.

This can be fixed

This past Sunday we “blessed the backpacks” of students who are going back to school. We had 4 jillion backpacks on the platform and it was a great part of our service. One 7th grader sat behind me during the service. His mom had dropped him off and left. I saw him bring in his backpack.

RCS food pantry Rockdale Christian Services operates a food pantry at 224 West Cameron Avenue, open 10 a.m. until noon weekdays. Donations of non-perishable food items are welcome, especially one-pound bags of rice, pinto beans, macaroni and cheese, canned soups and peanut butter.

Annual meet the teachers and Eagles events set for Thursday

MILANO NEWS Milano ISD has announced its annual Meet the Teachers and Meet the Eagles events for the 2018-19 school year. The Meet the Teachers will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16 at all three campuses. The Meet the Eagles event will be held at 7 p.m.
