Rockdale Rotary Club meets the first, third and fourth Tuesdays of each month at the Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department from noon to 1 p.m. Lunch is provided. Rockdale Noon Lions Club also meets at RVFD on the first and third Wednesday of each month with lunch provided.

It’s a Wonderful Life was based on a Christmas card short story by Philip Van Doren Stern, which was originally sent out to around 200 of Stern’s friends and family in December of 1943. The short story was called “The Greatest Gift” and was inspired by a dream Stern had one night in the 1930s.

Rockdale Junior High band students went to ATSSB MS All Region auditions in Smithville on Saturday, Oct. 4, with 475 students from other schools. Eight RJH students made it and qualified to perform at Bastrop Performing Arts Center on Jan. 20.

10-20-40-100 YEARS AGO 100 YEARS AGO… Interest in the celebration of Rockdale’s Golden Anniversary, as suggested by The Reporter, was becoming widespread. All the old-timers who had heard the suggestion were enthusiastic in their endorsement of the plan.
