Growing up in Temple in the 60s and 70s, there was a place downtown that some of my friends and I so enjoyed haunting. It was called The Pastime—Temple’s only pool hall. Only once did I skip school (I think in my sophomore year) to go and play pool.

Rockdale lost a piece of history in the early hours of Sunday morning when the roof of the long-vacant old McVoy Grocery & Feed building collapsed, likely because of recent heavy rains. The roof collapse exposed the façade of the building and a huge crack on the Milam Street (south) wall.
The front facade of the McVoy’s building was still standing after the roof collapsed early Sunday morning, but the Rockdale VFD determined it needed to come down over fears that it might fall onto Main Street.

The home of Becky Bourtzos at 611 North Avenue was awarded Yard of the Month for May by Rockdale Earth Day. David Melton, chairman of Rockdale Earth Day said, “Becky’s yard has multiple flower beds with annuals, perennials, rocks, yard art, hanging baskets and pots and a bird bath.
