Reflections on an ‘amazing year’ at Rockdale Intermediate

What an amazing year it has been at RIS! I spent the weekend reflecting on the past year and can’t believe all we have accomplished. We began the school year and soon had to send home two grade levels because of COVID numbers. It honestly feels like this happened two years ago.

BUSINESS OF THE MONTH

BUSINESS OF THE MONTH—Radio station KRXT is the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce’s business of the month for May. On hand for the honor are (L-R) Jay Davis, Lori McGregor Kolar and Charlie McGregor. The station is located at 1095 West US 79 and they can be reached at 512-446-6985.

LEGION OFFICERS

LEGION OFFICERS—On May 2, new American Legion officers for Post 358 were sworn in Finance; Cecil Calvin, Judge Advocate; Jeff Nicholas, Sargent-at-Arms; Tim Guthrie, Service and pinned at a dinner celebrating their 100-year anniversary.

Rockdale Police make 3 arrests over the week

Rockdale Police Officers made three arrests during the past week including one each for no driver’s license, violation of bond/protective order and failure to identify/ giving false information.

FIRE CALLS

Rockdale VFD Responded to: • 821 Ackerman for traffic control for a two-vehicle accident on Tuesday. • Rockdale High School for smoke in a classroom on Thursday. • 1201 East Belton for a brush fire on Thursday. • US 77 to assist the Milam County Sheriff’s Office in searching for a subject on Friday.

MILAM COUNTY JAIL LOG

Jail log lists all people charged with offenses through the county jail in Cameron. Charges may change during the process. Persons are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law. • Rebecca Ann Lorenz, 56, Cameron, public intoxication, released.

JUNIOR HIGH MEDALISTS

JUNIOR HIGH MEDALISTS—Mason Lillard (L) and Brody Willard (R) were two of five gold medalists for Rockdale Junior High this past Saturday at Taylor High School. The pair won gold in eighth grade boys doubles division.

ORGANIZATIONS

American Legion Turkey Shoot May 15 American Legion Post 358 will hold a turkey shoot on Sunday, May 15 at 2534 North FM 487. Food and drinks start at 11 a.m. with the shooting competition starting at noon. Twelve-gauge with maximum barrel length 32” including choke can be used. Ammunition provided.
