Here it is Monday morning and the phone is ringing with someone I can hardly understand, wanting to tell me all about “senior benefits.” I’m guessing he thinks I’m old. Half of the time it rings and I answer, but no one is there. Can’t win for losing.

Fun Jazz and Derby Party Saturday at The 1895

Above, The Sparky Thomason Quartet is always a big hit every time they play, and there were lots of fancy Derby Hats in the audience. There were many different kinds of music on Saturday, including Charlie Weyler, J.D. Pendley and Christian Wiggs.

RETIREES—RISD held a district retirement party last Judith Carpenter (32 years with 12 at RISD), Genella Thursday and these ladies were recognized and given Korenek (35 years) and Audrey Pelzel (37 years, not pictured). awards for their years of service.

Splash Pad set to open

The Splash Pad at Sumuel Park will open for the season on Saturday, May 7, 2022.

New FFA officers elected Thursday at banquet

The Rockdale FFA chapter elected new leaders last Thursday at the FFA Banquet held in the RHS cafeteria. There was also a silent auction of their projects.

Methodist readers

St. John’s United Methodist Church sent their members to Rockdale Elementary School last Wednesday to read to the students. See new Elementary school Principal Shannon Pourmanzadeah’s column on page 2A in which she emphasizes the importance of reading aloud to students.

Knighted at RIS

EarlyAct FirstKnight (or EAFK) is a national award-winning, year-round program for elementary and middle school students that develops important social skills and high moral character. This program is sponsored by the Rockdale Rotary Club at Rockdale Intermediate School.

JAZZ & DERBY PARTY AT THE 1895 ROCKDALE TX

This Saturday the Jazz and Derby Party will take place at The 1895. Food trucks, wineries, vendors and tours of The 1895 will start at 2 p.m. The music starts at 2:30 p.m. with Charlie Weyler followed by The Sparky Thomason Quartet at 4 p.m., J.D. Pendley at 6:30 p.m. and Christian Wiggs at 7:30 p.

Chamber Banquet a big hit after two-year absence

Nearly 200 people attended the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce Banquet Thursday night, the first one to be held after a two-year absence due to the pandemic.
