Samraj Gill is the valedictorian and Mason Willard is the salutatorian of the 107-member Rockdale Junior-High eighth-grade class of 2020. There will not be an eighth grade promotion in the RJH Gym as usual, due to the COVID-19 situation, according to Principal Kelly Blair,.

Milam dodges violent weather

Rockdale and Milam County dodged violent weather that rumbled across Central Texas Tuesday afternoon. Funnel clouds were reported, and posted online, as close as the Lexington area as a line of serious thunderstorms moved from southeast of Austin toward Bryan-College Station.

US 79 ACCIDENTS—It wasn’t a good week along US 79 in Milam County either for accidents or for reports of them. The Department of Public of Safety, Rockdale Police, the Milam County Sheriff’s Department and an AMR ambulance crew responded to this wreck at 1:30 p.m. May 6 just east of the KC Hall.

‘Hybrid’ graduation in Thorndale

This unique year will have a most unique graduation at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 23. Forty-four THS graduates will march up to a table on the Thorndale baseball field and receive their diplomas as the Class of 2020 participates in a “no contact” commencement ceremony.

Here’s this week 4-H spotlight

During the month of May, we are highlighting our Milam County 4-H seniors graduating in 2020. We are so proud of these youth as they have worked very hard, for most of them, over 10 years in 4-H. They have competed in numerous competitions and have gained skills they will use their entire life.
