Back before signal lights someone had to stand and direct traffic at major intersections and that’s the way Rockdale had to handle it Thursday morning when the signal lights failed in all four directions at the Cameron-Main (US 79-FM 908 Northbound) corner.

Workshop Thursday on petition

The Rockdale City Council will hold a workshop session at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at City Hall to discuss a petition the city recently received asking for an election May 2 to decide where to allocate sales tax funds currently being collected by the Rockdale Municipal Development District (MDD).

No races with a week to file

There must be some poker players in Rockdale politics because someone must be holding cards close to the vest. With a week to go before the Feb. 14 filing deadline there are no candidates for the Rockdale City Council and only one for the school board.

For years Rockdale animal lovers have dreamed of having a dog park to take Fifi and Fido for an afternoon of leg-stretching and stick retrieving. That dream is now a reality. The City of Rockdale’s new dog park will host a “soft opening at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12.

Blood drawing ahead Feb. 16 in Thorndale Baylor Scott & White Blood Center will be at St. Paul Lutheran Church & School in Thorndale on Sunday, Feb. 16 for a blood drawing. Hours are 8 a.m. to 12-noon. Donors will receive a free, limited edition T-shirt and a blood donor lapel pin.

POSGCD eyes action on Blue Water

MILANO—The Post Oak Savannah Groundwater Conservation District (POSGCD) will meet Thursday, Feb. 13, to resume a hearing process begun last year, and possibly take action on a request by Blue Water Vista Ridge LLC to amend drilling and transport permits in connection with the Vista Ridge project.

Rockdale Police said a 76-year-old pedestrian was not seriously injured in an accident Monday afternoon in the Walmart parking lot. Police identified the pedestrian as Frank Montelongo of Rockdale. According to police, the vehicle involved was an SUV operated by Joyce Dickson of Rockdale.
