JAMBOREE

JAMBOREE—The Fourth Annual Country Gospel Jamboree was held recently at the Giddings High School auditorium. The event, hosted by the Cowboy Church of Lee County, drew a crowd of over 240 and featured several regional entertainers who specialize in country-flavored gospel music.

SAYING ‘GOOD-BYE’—Mayor John King (center) did the honors before Monday’s city council session as the city bid farewell to a pair of retiring council members. Willie Phillips (R) was the council’s senior member, serving six terms, and a total of 18 years, as east ward councilman.

‘PLAYING BALL’ WITH THE CHAMBER—The Rockdale Youth Baseball Association has joined the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce. A ribbon-cutting was held recently.

Flushed with success

St. Joseph’s Catholic Church’s annual May-fest, held at the KC Hall and sponsored by Knights of Columbus Council 7014, always draws one of Rock-dale’s largest come-and-go crowds and it was that way Sunday.

TEAMMATES AND LEGIONNAIRES—

A new flag pole at the Rockdale High School baseball field was donated by the 1962 state-finalist Rockdale American Legion baseball team. Five team members attended the dedication along with members of American Legion Carlyle Post 358 which sponsored that teenage team, managed by realtor M.R.

Programs set at library

Programs are set at the Lucy Hill Patterson Memorial Library on consecutive Thursdays May 17 and 24, according to Librarian Melanie Todd. Robert Lawhon will present an evening of music May 17 and author Sean Wall will host a book signing May 24. Both will begin at 6 p.m.

MISD scholarship golf tourney set for Saturday

MILANO NEWS The annual Milano ISD scholarship golf tournament will be held on Saturday, May 19 at the Rockdale Country Club. Cost is $75 per player and is a four-person scramble event. The tournament will begin at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start.

Last Friday (my day off) I drank coffee and prayed with the Blonde at the kitchen table. Then I walked with her at Tiger Field. I took a selfie laying on the 50 (don’t tell Coach Miller), another in front of the goal post. I ran across the field pretending to be 16 again.
