CAMERON—Seventeen persons were sentenced during the past two weeks in 20th District Court, according to Prosecutor Bill Torrey, as follows: • Robert Leroy Chappell, 28, Bryan, five-year prison term after pleading “true” to a motion to revoke probation for sexual assault of child.

Filing deadline ahead on Friday for city, school

With the filing deadline set for Friday, there were several developments in the May 5 city, school and special district elections. Rockdale got its first contested race when Ryan Warner filed for the Place 7 school board position currently held by Julia Cardona, who had previously filed.

BUCKHOLTS—The Buckholts ISD has been decertified by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), it was announced Friday. The TEA stressed no official decision has been made on whether the school district will close.

Skills USA students head to state

WACO—Rockdale High School SkillsUSA students came home with six medals and qualified seven students for state from their first district level competition ever during the weekend at TSTC-Waco.

RJH teacher draws praise for work

Social studies can be a challenge to teach at any level. The ability to make it interesting and meaningful to students is an art that should be recognized. Rockdale Junior High Principal Kelly Blair would like to recognize a teacher on her campus that has this art, and is able to put it into action.
