The aroma of homemade bread baking in the oven is enough to compel many people to get in the kitchen and bake. That aroma is even more welcoming when hosting friends and family overnight, as there’s nothing quite like waking up to the smell of freshly baked bread coming from the kitchen.

When the temperature dipped into the 40s and a strong north wind blew across Rockdale Saturday morning, Linwood Acres Garden Club members wondered if anyone would come to their annual plant exchange at the Chamber of Commerce. They came. They dressed warmly but they came.

RHS students wins state in Skills USA contest CORPUS CHRISTI—Nathan Thomas, a student at Rockdale High School, won first place and received a gold medal during the weekend in the SkillsUSA competition held in Corpus Christi. Thomas won the Employment Application Process competition.

El Camino Real chapter welcomes new members

CAMERON—The Texas Master Naturalist El Camino Real Chapter awarded certifi cates to their new 2018 members recently near Cameron. Trainees had attended 40 hours of classroom training and fi eld trips to learn about Texas natural resources and areas.

Milano native will turn 100 May 5th

TOMBALL—Vera Oneta Morgan Williams, a native of Milano, will turn 100 on May 5. A celebration of her 100 years will be held at 2 p.m. May 5 at Lawrence Street Healthcare and Rehab, 615 Lawrence in Tomball. She was born in Milano May 5, 1918, to Walter Lee and Edna Ray Kelley Morgan.

Stash Your Trash ‘early’ Earth Day event

In keeping with the 2018 promise of Earth Day as more than one day the annual spring Stash Your Trash day at Fair Park is listed as part of “Earth Month.” It goes from 8 a.m. to 12-noon and is for Rock-dale residents only.
