The Rockdale Police Department recently received a gift basket from Rockdale Walmart, part of the store’s community appreciation work. Police Lt. Stephen Goodrich accepted the gift at Walmart. It was presented by Melissa Dovalina (R), local store manager, and Walmart associate Terrace Mitchell.

Knights of Columbus Council 7014 has donated $250 to the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce’s annal drive to provide free fans during the summer for persons who need them, Charlie Watson of KC Council 7014 made the check presentation to Denise Brock, Chamber executive director.

Alcoa retirees cancel June meeting, set next meeting for September Due to current restrictions and health concerns, the June meeting of the Rockdale Alcoa Retirees has been canceled. “The next regularly scheduled meeting will be in September hopefully” according to Doug Williams, spokesman.

Milam County 4-H members received $43,500 in scholarships last week. Seven 4-H members received $500 in scholarship from the Milam County 4-H Foundation Chris Holcombe Memorial Scholarship.

LeTourneau announces graduate, honor list LONGVIEW—One Milam County student has graduated from LeTourneau University while another has been named to the school’s President’s Honor List. Timothy Hoff of Rockdale will receive a bachelor of science degree in Scripture & Theology.

We’re going to have to wait at least another month to see sales tax receipts plummet because of the COVID-19 Pandemic. June sales taxes held mostly steady throughout the area, even though receipts were down over 11 percent statewide.

Mammoth-sized 2020 graduation parade started in intermediate school parking lot, wound its way around all sections of Rockdale and ended at Milam Avenue downtown. Onlookers ringed three-mile long parade route to express support for RHS graduates.

Kayla Renee Faust and Allen O’Neil Faust of Rockdale announce the birth of their son, Casen Allen Faust, on May 8, 2020, at St. David’s Georgetown Hospital. He weighed 8 pounds, 9 ounces and measured 21½ inches long.
