Unless Rockdale rallies to its cause, again, a town landmark may become a victim of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Bob Burnett, president of the Kay Theatre Foundation, said the fully-restored 73-year-old venue is down to about 3-1/2 months operating expenses.

Chamber bestows awards anyway

This year’s annual Rockdale Chamber of Commerce Banquet was canceled but over the past few years the annual awards were bestowed at the Chamber headquarters as follows: • Citizens of the Year— Jeff and Rebecca King.

Liberty Cemetery Association cancels annual meeting The annual Liberty Cemetery Association meeting scheduled for July 5, has been canceled for this year due to COVID-19. “The executive board thought for the safety of all, it was better to cancel,” according to Judy York, association secretary.

No July 4th parade, community meal this year

A reminder that there will be no celebration of the “stars and stripes” in our town this year. The Milano City Council decided to cancel the annual July 4th parade and community meal for this year. The event was the only one of its kind in the area.

Remember Saturday, Feb. 22? It turned out to be a big day in our community. The annual police-firefighter banquet at the KC Hall was the last face-toface gathering in the area until, well, when? Within a couple of weeks COVID-19 descended and mass gatherings were a thing of the past.
