Springfield Baptist to hold celebration Sunday for pastor

Springfield Missionary Baptist Church will hold a 34-Year Anniversary Celebration for Pastor S.L. Ross Sr. at 11 a.m. Sunday at the church. Pastor Ross’s nephew, Bishop Ricky Ross, pastor of High Dimension Church in Houston, will lead the service.

Still helping seniors

The Rockdale Senior Citizens Center continues to assist senior citizens by distributing free frozen diners during the COVID-19 crisis. Carolyn Cooper, center director, said about 400 were given way Thursday. All had previously signed up to receive the meals.

CTFB serves 600 during distribution Thursday

The first of two May visits to the KC Hall parking lot Thursday by the Central Texas Food Bank (CTFB) served 600 persons in 271 households. That total included 36 individuals in 36 households, Pam Warren, Rockdale Christian Services chair, said.

Sales tax receipts ‘plus’ only for now

Amazingly, both the City of Rockdale and Milam County managed to stay in positive territory for the year in the monthly sales tax distributions from the Comptroller’s Office. But there’s a reason why.

It even included the hat toss

The goal was to make it as much like graduation as possible for the historic Rockdale High School graduating Class of 2020. Goal accomplished.

The second “new look” surplus food distribution drew hundreds of persons to the KC Hall Thursday afternoon. Pam Warren, chair of Rockdale Christian Services, said the Central Texas Food Pantry event served 328 households with 765 individuals.

It may be a lot different than it was a month ago, but everything in Rockdale hasn’t stopped because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The orders issued last week at the city, county, state and federal institutions allowed “essential” services to continue. And they have.
