After Friday night’s game in Rockdale, I stopped by CEFCO for a late night snack. While waiting in line with a bag of chili cheese Fritos, I started to wonder who ended up winning Thorndale’s district championship game with Hearne.

For the third time in four weeks, the outcome of a Rockdale Tiger football game was decided on the final drive. Last week in Academy, the Blue-and-Gold failed to deliver as they lost 21-14 to the Bumblebees.

Thorndale volleyball opened up post-season play on Monday at the Caldwell High School gym, where they swept Snook 25-17, 25-10, 25-10. The Lady Dogs will now face Shiner, who came into the post-season as the fourth place team from District 27-2A.

MILANO—MHS football ran into some tough luck on Friday evening when they took on undefeated Burton at Pruitt Field, falling to the Panthers 42-3. The Eagles got an early lead when kicker Irvin Juarez made a 27-yard field goal a little over halfway through the first quarter.

Bocanegra returns to state, Koenig ready for first trip

On Monday, Milano’s Kadance Koenig and Rockdale’s Jesus Bocanegra raced in two different parts of the state, but both ended the day with one thing in common: they each earned a trip to the state cross country meet to be held at Round Rock’s Old Settlers Park in early November.

On Tuesday evening, the Lady Tiger volleyball team concluded district play with a loss to Cameron at Tiger Gym, 21-25, 17-25, 25-22, 21-25. Despite the loss, the Blue-and-Gold advanced to the post-season and will face Lorena, the Texas Girls Coaches Association’s sixth-ranked team in Class 3A.

Bee careful! A swarm of bees attacked a rancher, utilizing an open-top bulldozer to clear brush from his property when he inadvertently ran over their hive. Unable to be removed from his vehicle, a ranch hand covered him in blankets and called emergency services for assistance.
