All of Milam County’s school districts are now back in classes, both in-person and online. Milano ISD was the final one to get underway with a Thursday start. “It went very smoothly even with all the new procedures put in place. Great cooperation by students, parents and staff,” Supt.

4-H meetings: Masks, social distancing

The new 4-H year will start Tuesday. Our 4-H leaders are gearing up by making sure all families are safe during COVID 19. We are asking all 4-H families to wear masks and social distance at meetings. Meetings will take place where there is adequate space to social distance.

What virus? Area sales taxes rising

If the COVID-19-Pandemic year of 2020 is going to negatively impact Rockdale-area’s sales tax receipts, it’s going to have to be in the year’s final third. Sales tax receipts for Rockdale and the Rockdale Municipal Development District are up for the August distribution and the year.

Back to ‘normal’

The start of the 2020-2021 school year was anything but ‘normal’ Thursday, due to COVID-19, but you couldn’t have told it from the usual coming-to-school traffic coming up Childress Street in front of Rockdale High School.

Familiar face is new Ford general manager

The “new” general manager at Rockdale Country Ford is new about like Tom Brady is a “new” quarterback just because he’s now playing for the Tampa Ray Buccaneers. Eric Paulsen had previously worked for the dealership for 19 years before taking a job in a different business in Williamson County.

Little habits can make big differences

Aristotle once famously said, “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.” The ancient philosopher was certainly right about the idea that habits are what often make or break a person.

DEBRIS IN ROAD

DEBRIS IN ROAD—That’s what the Department of Public Safety listed as the cause of this 2:22 p.m. Aug. 6 one-vehicle accident on US 79 just east of FM 2116. According to the DPS, this vehicle operated by Christine Cramblett, 50, of San Antonio, encountered the debris about 1:10 p.m.

Classes in the Rockdale ISD, and online, don’t start until Aug. 13 but teachers have already been preparing in the Rockdale ISD. First-grade teachers got together to discuss lesson planning recently at Rockdale Elementary School.
