Cattle Raisers honor Milam’s prosecutor Milam County District Attorney Bill Torrey has been named 2019 DA of the Year by the Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association. Torrey will be honored at the group’s Expo in Fort Worth March 31.

Break-in, forgery linked

A break-in at a downtown business during the past week has been linked with a forgery case and an arrest warrant has been issued in connection with both incidents. Lt. Stephen Goodrich said a burglary was reported at Rubio Septic Service in the 200 block of West Cameron.

Here is the Milam County Jail Log for Feb. 12-18. Jail logs list all persons charged with offenses through the county jail docket. Charges may change during the process. Persons are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law.

SPREADING SOME LOVE

For the past three years, Dusty Albreight has bought all the leftover flowers from Brookshire Brothers after Valentine’s Day and taken them to Renaissance Villa nursing home. He said, “You’ve got to show love to get love.” On Tuesday Albreight put a smile on the faces of Betty K.

Escapees recaptured in Cameron

Two male juveniles escapees being transported to district court appearances in Cameron from the Youth Opportunity Center-Rock-dale Campus slipped their restraints and were briefly free in downtown Cameron last Wednesday.

Juarez earns ‘Elite’ ranking from company

Romanita ( Didi) Juarez, a Woodmen Life Sales Representative for this area, has been recognized as Elite-level for 2019. According to the company, she is one of the 125 Elite representatives with the most cumulative points in these areas in 2018.

APRIL OPENING PLANNED

—Construction Superintendent Gary Lake (L) gave Rockdale City Manager Chris Whittaker a tour of the new police station last week. Whittaker said the facility’s opening will be delayed until April as the contractor awaits phone and Internet installation by AT&T and the 911 system linkup by Verizon.

MDD re-instating rental, aid, facade grant programs

The Rockdale Municipal Development District (MDD) is re-instating two programs which assist local businesses. Executive Director Kara Clore said the Rental Assistance and Facade Programs are back in place. Both had been suspended by the MDD board.

Years of change: Builders and boomers through 20th Century

With each growing population, there have been changes. Those who were born between the years of 1915-25 were known as the Builders. Those who lived in this era were witnesses to the Great Depression, the Bombing of Pearl Harbor, World War II and the Korean War.
