Gause cager seeks funding

GAUSE—According to her family, Makayla Alexander of Gause has earned the opportunity to play basketball with Team USA for 365 Sports in the Bahamas this summer. She has created a GoFundMe page at https://www.gofundme.com/makayla-alexander039s-team-usa-trip? to seek donations for the opportunity.

SIGNING

—Thorndale High School senior Scott Guzman signed to continue his baseball career at Sul Ross State University in Alpine on Thursday, Feb. 14. Guzman is a four-year starter for the Bulldogs who had a batting average of .427 last season with 44 hits, 34 runs batted in and 23 stolen bases.

RHS powerlifters move up in ranks Five Rockdale powerlifters competed on Thursday at the Salado Invitational with hopes to move up in the Texas High School Powerlifting Association rankings. Robert Barrera won the 275-pound weight class and is in sixth in his division as of press time.

NO DUNKING

—That really wasn’t an issue Saturday night in the RHS gym as Cody Caldwell (above) and other volunteers participated in a donkey basketball game. The contest was a benefit for the Pack Pals program which provides nutritious lunches to children.

Sweet spot

The Tiger and Lady Tiger golf teams dominated the Rockdale Invitational Tournament last Wednesday. Both boys and girls won the tournament and took the first through third place spots over their Lexington, Jarrell and Little River-Academy competitors at the Rockdale Country Club.

Four medal in tennis tournament

Despite weather conditions that forced an early cancellation of the Georgetown High School tennis tournament last Friday, RHS tennis players were able to eke out four medals.

RHS boys basketball season ends with loss

Lady Eagles season ends at bi-district

The Milano Lady Eagle basketball team’s season came to an end with a 66-34 loss to Normangee in the bi-district round of the UIL 2A state playoffs, Monday night in Caldwell. “Normangee was a tough team,” said Jordan Merkord, MHS girl’s basketball coach.
