Tigers blank Cameron

In their first ever match-up with rival Cameron, the Tigers came out on top of the high energy 1-0 victory last Friday. “There were some times where I thought we missed opportunities to create a bigger lead,” said Gilberto Rodriguez, Rockdale High School head soccer coach.

The Rockdale Lady Tigers had two come from behind wins in their 4-2 performance at the Killeen Tournament this past weekend, getting all sorts of game experience essential to their upcoming District 19-3A schedule, according to head coach Erin Palmer.

RHS golfers do well despite elements, tough course

After dominating at home with first place finishes last week, the Rock-dale High School golf teams battled the weather in one tournament and faced tough competition in bad weather at the hardest course they’ve played on in the 2019 season in the second tournament last week.

Davis hurls 50 pitches in debut

The Rockdale Tigers played in their third scrimmage of the season on Friday night at home against Caldwell. “For the most part, I thought we did things well,” said John Hooser, Rockdale High School head baseball coach.

Gause cager seeks funding

SIGNING

—Thorndale High School senior Scott Guzman signed to continue his baseball career at Sul Ross State University in Alpine on Thursday, Feb. 14. Guzman is a four-year starter for the Bulldogs who had a batting average of .427 last season with 44 hits, 34 runs batted in and 23 stolen bases.

SPORTS BRIEFS

RHS powerlifters move up in ranks Five Rockdale powerlifters competed on Thursday at the Salado Invitational with hopes to move up in the Texas High School Powerlifting Association rankings. Robert Barrera won the 275-pound weight class and is in sixth in his division as of press time.

NO DUNKING

—That really wasn’t an issue Saturday night in the RHS gym as Cody Caldwell (above) and other volunteers participated in a donkey basketball game. The contest was a benefit for the Pack Pals program which provides nutritious lunches to children.
