Rockdale boys continue to fight in district play

The Rockdale Tigers suffered their eighth district loss to Little River-Academy 67-50 on Friday night after the undefeated Bumblebees got off to a fast start in the first quarter. “We started off in the half-court trap,” said Sean Coleman, Rockdale High School boy’s head basketball coach.

Three games left on Lady Tiger sked

The Rockdale Lady Tiger basketball team fell for the second time to Little River-Academy 39-21 with three more District 19-3A games left on the schedule. “We didn’t quite get off to a good start,” said Meredith Caffey, Rockdale High School girl’s head basketball coach.

RYBA registration closes January 31st Deadline for registering for the 2019 Rockdale Youth Baseball Association is Thursday. Fees for players ages 3-14 are $90 and $65 for the recreational league. All fees are due Friday, Feb. 15. Discounts are available for families with multiple children.

Bulldog squads are undefeated

The Thorndale Lady Bulldogs took down Holland 72-25 on Friday, revitalizing their quality of play after what head coach Bradley Dickerson described was a rough couple of games. “Things have been going well through the middle of district,” Dickerson said.

Lady Eagles take down Mumford, 40-33

The Milano Lady Eagles defeated Mumford for the second time this season 40-33 on Friday. Sterling Robertson was the leading scorer with 11 points, Hannah Batten had nine, Sage LoBue and Faith Walton both had five and McKenna Robertson, Kristian Taylor and Bethanie Compton all had three.

RHS golf squads eye return to state

A Rockdale Lady Tiger golf team that finished second in the state last year faces many challenges in 2019. First, the team lost its top golfer Lyndy Laurrell to graduation. Laurrell, who now plays at Stephen F. Austin, won the 3A golf championship title.
