Fair tickets on sale at area businesses

Season tickets for the fast approaching Rockdale Fair are now on sale at more than a dozen area businesses, most of them on Rockdale. The tickets, which admit the bearer to every event of the Fair, including the nightly dances and the Oct. 13 pageants, are priced as follows: • Adult, $25.

MASONRY MOMENTUM

MASONRY MOMENTUM—There’s a lot more happening at the construction site of Rockdale’s new jail. Brickwork is well underway with walls growing higher and stronger on a daily basis in the 300 block of East Cameron (US 79). The 9,800-square-foot structure is expected to be complete by March 2019.

Fall garage sale to begin Thursday

MILANO NEWS The Milano Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary’s fall garage sale is set for this weekend at the fire station, 305 E Avenue C. The fire station sale is from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Our family members attended the St. Joseph Catholic School’s homecoming football game in Bryan Friday. Grandson Jaxon Hayles is a member of the team. Next thing we know we will be attending granddaughter Addy’s school activities. Mary and Jim Lee of Houston spent the weekend with us.

Lights, camera, Rockdale

The movies are coming to Rockdale. Henry Reynolds, owner of Gameplan Studios in Austin, and a U.S Army and Merchant Marine veteran, said Rockdale is the perfect place to expand his film production company. “I spent three quarters of a million dollars buying property in Rock-dale,” he said.

‘Melodie Run’ set Saturday

QUICK LOOK CALDWELL—The first Sunflower/Melodie Hope Jones Memorial Scholarship Fund 5K Run/Walk and Kids 1-Mile Fun Run/ Walk is set for Saturday, at Caldwell’s Davidson Creek Park. It’s in honor of the late Melodie Jones, 2015 Milano High School graduate, who died in a US 79 accident.

Dead center in the uprights, in fact, as the largest of three press box modules was installed Saturday afternoon at the new Tiger Field. The other two modules went in Monday and the new $5-million facility is ready for an open house from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday.

Reporter adds Thomason, Paschall

Two new employees have recently joined the staff at The Rockdale Reporter. Wynton Thomason was welcomed to the newsroom in July and Cassidy Paschall was welcomed to the ad sales staff in September. SPORTS—Thomason was raised in Rockdale and graduated from Milano High School.

Live music for almost 14 straight hours is on tap downtown Oct. 6 when the Rockdale Downtown Association hosts the first annual Rockdale Fall Music Festival in and around Wolf Park.
