Migrant life highlighted in family memoir

MARLIN – Frank Dávila’s memoir “An Outburst of Dreams” documents his family’s time as migrant workers throughout Texas. Dávila, brother of Manuela Rosas and Josie Martinez of Rockdale and uncle to Gloria Zapata of Rockdale, will read from his memoir in Dallas on Friday.

Blood drive to be held Saturday at Milano VFD

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL CAMPS

Vacation Bible schools offer a variety of activities with a Christian message for students of all ages. These are the programs in the area: July 17-19 – Rockdale Christian Church will step back in time for its VBS exploring the town where Jesus grew up.

It’s estimated over 1,000 people gathered in the Fair Park area Thursday night for Rockdale’s semi-annual Milam County fireworks display. Fireworks alternate between Rockdale and Cameron each July 4.

Taste of Thorndale: 78 teams compete

THORNDALE—Seventy-eight teams competed in th 29th annual Thorndale Volunteer Fire Department Barbecue Cookoff Friday and Saturday at City Park. In the end, the overall winners didn’t have far to go to take the championship trophy home.
