Sales tax holiday Friday-Sunday

Whether you’re in need of notebooks, rulers or running shoes, Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar is reminding shoppers they can save money on those and other items during the state’s sales tax holiday on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 9-11.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL CAMPS

Vacation Bible schools offer a variety of activities with a Christian message for students of all ages. These are the programs in the area: Aug. 5-9—Calvary Baptist Church will hold VBS through Friday from 6-8:30 p.m. at 1443 South FM 487, Rockdale for pre-kindergarteners through sixth graders.

School kicks off with prayer walk Meadowbrook Baptist Church will host a prayer walk 6 p.m., Wednesday. The walk begins at 1401 Colorado Ave., Rockdale and Thorndale residents should meet at Thorndale school. Call 512-446-3367 for more information.

Ag boosters meeting set for Monday

Milano/Gause Ag Boosters will hold their next monthly meeting on Monday. The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. in the MHS cafeteria. The group had also started their fall “Freezer Full of Meat” fundraiser. Tickets are $5 each or five for $20.

Vista Ridge discussion part of Aug. 14 ‘summit’

CALDWELL—The annual Milam and Burleson Counties Groundwater Summit. will be Aug. 14, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Caldwell Civic Center. The civic center is located at 103 Texas 21 in Caldwell, according to Post Oak Savannah Groundwater Conservation District (POSGCD) spokesman Doug Box.

RHS grad completes USAF basic course

SAN ANTONIO—U.S. Air Force Airman Autumn S. Montelongo recently graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio.

—The Walmart Foundation has bestowed a $1,500 Community Giving grant to the Milam Adult Resource Center. Making the presentation were local Walmart manager Eulalio Sanchez and Terrace Mitchell, Personnel Manager. Looking on were some of the center’s clients.

Milano, Thorndale teachers get raises

Milano and Thorndale teachers will join with Rockdale instructors—and for that matter, those throughout the state—in receiving significant raises for the 2019-20 school term as part of the new HB 3. (For story on Rockdale ISD see page 1A).
