BUSINESS OF THE MONTH

—Pud Owens/Judith Matula Realty has been named Business of the Month for August by the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce. Chamber officials were on hand to unveil the banner.

UNION PICNIC

—United Steelworkers Local 4895 held its annual picnic Saturday at The Ranch in Rockdale. David Edmonds, Local 4895 spokesman and former president said a nice crowd was on hand, both inside and outside the venue, to enjoy a barbecue lunch. Families of the Steelworkers also participated.

CALABOOSE ON THE LOOSE

—But not for long. The century-old calaboose (tiny jail holding cell) which has been at City Hall was moved to Bridge Park during the week where it joins other historic structures.

Meet the Teachers, Eagles events set for August 16th

MILANO NEWS Milano ISD has announced its annual Meet the Teachers and Meet the Eagles events for the 2018-19 school year. The Meet the Teachers will be held at 6 p.m. Aug. 16 at all three campuses. The Meet the Eagles event will be held at 7 p.m.

Bells Celebrate 70 Years of Marriage

Dorman and Joyce Berry Bell began their life together on July 12, 1948 at Sunshine Community, Arkansas where they were married by Rev. Wesley Thomas Smith, grandfather of the bride. After moving to Texas, Dorman was employed by Dow Chemical Company for 28 years.

New bleachers, press box ahead for Milano ISD

The new school year is ready to start on Monday, Aug. 20. We have a great group of seniors. It has been a very busy summer. Our maintenance and custodial departments have been stripping and waxing floors, moving classroom equipment from room to room, completing painting and renovation projects.

Bountiful Harvest

More than eighty people from Williamson County and beyond were in Milam County recently to take part in the Marek Vineyard annual grape harvest at the end of July. “I have fun doing it,” said Chick Gladwin of Sun City. ‘This is the second time I’ve been out.
