Parade winners announced

MILANO NEWS The City of Milano held its annual Fourth of July parade and free hot dog meal last week. Results of parade winners are as follows: Best overall—“Our Soldier is Coming Home,” Lenz and Barnes families. This float was in honor of Chris Barnes, who serves in the U.S.

BUSINESS OF THE MONTH

—Quilty Place, located at 709 West Cameron Avenue (US 79) has been named Business of the Month for July by the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center. Quilty place is owned and operated by Jody Morris. Chamber officers and members were on hand at the business for the award presentation.

Building permits ‘cool off’ in June

After a torrid start to 2018, due to the construction of a new football field, building permits cooled off considerably during June. Permits totaled $33,475 in June, inching the 2018 half-year total to $5,388,126.

RFA awards scholarships to seniors

The Rockdale Fair Association this year has awarded a total of nine scholarships to Milam County seniors, including one in memory of a late Rockdale businessman who was the first RFA president.

RHS graduate now dean of services for Collin College

FRISCO—Dr. Alicia (Williams) Huppe, originally from Rockdale, has been appointed Dean of Student and Enrollment Services of the Collin College Preston Ridge Campus in Frisco. Dr. Huppe was salutatorian of the 1993 graduating class at Rockdale High School.
