Mother Nature grounds out softball invitational tourney

Rockdale softball fans will have to wait until the March 10 District 19-3A game against Lexington to watch the Lady Tigers take the field at home. Last week, the weather wreaked havoc on Coach Meghann Infantino’s carefully planned seven-team Rockdale Softball Invitational Tournament.

RHS Powerlifters do well in Salado Rockdale powerlifting teams did well in the Salado Eagle Invitational last Thursday, according to Coach Jacon Campsey. Campsey took 2o lifters to the final tournament of the season and said first and second place finisher may qualify for regionals.

Lady Bulldogs bucked out of state contention by Lady Horns, 39-31

Harper out-shot Thorndale 9-0 in the first quarter of the Class 2A Area playoffs, which gave them enough of a lead to win the game 39-31 in Marble Fall last Friday. Although the Lady Bulldogs played defense well and got defensive rebounds, they didn’t land many shots.

Former FHS cager hustle helps classmate

After a 10 day layoff, it took Thorndale players the entire first half to play their type of basketball and beat the Bluejays 46-42 in Monday night’s Class 2A bi-district playoff game. “We didn’t play real great. The group played hard defensively” said Coach John Kovar.

Former two-time state team champion Milano Eagle Devonte Jones competed in the SWAC Indoor Track and Field Championship at Birmingham Crossplex ranked No. 3 in the 60-meter dash for the Prairie View A&M men’s track and field team this past weekend.

Milano Junior High eighth-grade girls finish third in Bremond meet, four bring home gold

Milano Junior High School girls’ runners brought home four golds and the 8th graders finished third in team standings at the Bremond Track Meet on Monday. Eighth grader Melanee Moccia took first in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.88 seconds.

Rockdale Invitational begins Thursday

Seven teams will be competing in this year’s Rockdale Softball Invitational Tournament at Rock-dale High School. The Lady Tigers varsity takes the field 9:30 a.m. Friday and the junior varsity squad will play 9:30 a.m. today. Entry fees for tournament are $2 for students and $4 for adults.
