Early Friday evening, the Milano girls basketball team got their second win of the season, defeating non-district opponent Bartlett 25-23 on the road. It looked like the Lassies had the game early on, leading after the opening quarter and going up 11-6 at the close of the first half.

Milano Elementary fourth-grader Audrey Tibbitts has earned the Defensive Wizard Award at the 10-and-under All-American games in Round Rock. According to her father, Tibbitts went five-of-eight at the plate batting four runs in and crossing home plate three times.

New year, new unis for Rockdale soccer teams

Although the Rockdale Tiger soccer team began the new decade with a 4-1 loss to Robinson, the Tigers almost certainly won best-dressed during Friday’s game. For the first time this season, they were sporting their new uniforms.

RHS over McGregor 39-30

Rockdale’s Lady Tigers improved to 2-1 in District 19-3A after their defense battled back in the second half to grab a road win over McGregor 39-30. “It started slow and we had some girls in different places,” said Meredith Caffey, RHS basketball coach.

Milano teams fall in Granger

Milano’s boys struggled against Granger, unable to stop the Lions’ Johnny Ryder and Thomas Rhode, who combined for 41 points in their 64-56 win over the Eagles on Friday night at the GHS Gymnasium.

Meyer racks up awards at All-American Games

While most kids her age were home for the holidays, Toni Meyer of Milano was competing in the All-American Games at the Boombah Softball Complex in Orlando, FL from Jan. 2-5. During her time in the Sunshine State, Meyer received the tournament’s Most Valuable Player and Ace Pitcher awards.

RHS powerlifting starts Saturday in Giddings The Rockdale High Schools boys and girls powerlifting make their season debut when they travel to Giddings Saturday morning for their first powerlifting meet. All events will take place in the GHS Gymnasium.
