Rockdale Tigers defensive lineman Ty Mayberry made a verbal commitment to the University of Texas of the Permian Basin on Saturday via Twitter.

Last Wednesday, two of Rockdale’s elite football players made their college decisions official as they signed their Letters of Intent on National Signing Day. Running back Cam’ron Valdez will be heading to Lubbock to play for the Texas Tech Red Raiders while wide receiver Kesean Raven will be heading to Sam Houston State in Huntsville. The signing took place in the RHS gym with family, friends, teammates and coaches in attendance supporting the two young men.

As we prepare to celebrate Christmas on Friday, it will be a time of joy for many of us. We will celebrate the day by eating good food, spending time with our families, and watching one another smile as gifts are ripped open. While most of us can look over our lives and remember great memories of Christmas day, others in the world don’t share in that luxury. For many people, Christmas is another day of hunger and struggle. Somewhere, a child won’t get that PlayStation 5 or those new shoes. Another youngster won’t get that new Barbie doll or that new playset. However, many foundations, companies, churches and other civic and religious organizations try their best to serve those who are less fortunate. One athlete that has taken this to heart is NBA Legend and Hall of Famer Shaquille “Shaq” O’Neal.
