Valdez named top recruit

In Texas Football Magazine’s Rising, a recruiting guide for high school football players around the state, Rockdale’s Cam’Ron Valdez was named to the Top 100 recruits from the Class of 2021. The publication said Valdez was a “Big-play threat as a runner and shows good burst and acceleration.

RHS students make all-state

Rockdale trainers Briana David and Nygia Crawford and starting wide receiver Ross Loth were named to the Academic All-State team earlier this month. All three students maintained a grade-point average of 92 or above for the entirety of their four year high school career.

Tigers claw away Cadets, 3-2

Friday night at Tiger Stadium was a success for the RHS boys’ soccer team, defeating Conally 3-2 in their season opener...but not without some turbulence near the end. “It was close,” laughed Rodriguez, head coach for the Tigers. “I think we should’ve finished the game in the first twenty minutes.

HOOPS ACTION

On Tuesday, the Tigers got back in the swing of things with a 55-44 win over Snook at the RHS Gymnasium. The score was close for much of the game with Rockdale leading by one at the close of the first and leading 24-22 at halftime.

Lady Tigers cross the river, win district opener 53-29 over Cameron

For the second straight season, the Lady Tigers won their District 19-3A opener after tearing down Cameron in the Lady Yoe’s own gym 53-29. “I think it went really well,” said Meredith Caffey, RHS head girls’ basketball coach.

Bulldogs win home tourney

After sweeping through the competition, Thorndale was named champion of their own tournament on Saturday following their win over the Cameron Yoemen 60-52. Three Bulldogs ended the game with double-digit scoring. Kolby Neumeyer led the way with 21.

MHS 2-2 at Bremond

In Bremond, the Eagles had an opportunity to boost their confidence while also facing some tough competition. On Thursday, they kicked off the tournament with a 50-31 win over the host, Bremond, a team made up of guys just a week removed from football.

Lady Tigers finish second at Moody Tournament

With a successful weekend that resulted in a silver medal, the Lady Tigers improved to 7-3 after finishing second at the Moody Tournament. First, RHS beat Belton’s junior varsity 42-33 thanks to crucial rebounding by Karli Marburger and Miah Beckwith.
