ROCKDALE HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL

The men’s basketball team went 1-3 in the recent Lago Vista Tournament. The Tigers are now 3-11 for the season. They have two road games against Navasota and Lexington before they regroup after Christmas to play in the New Caney Tournament in New Caney.

The Tigers soccer team started the season with a scrimmage against Cameron here at Tiger Field last Friday. The Tigers scored three goals, Cameron had two. Head Boys Soccer Coach Gilberto Rodriguez said, “The boys had a good game.

Five members of the Rockdale Tigers’ varsity football team were named to the Academic All-State Team by the Texas High School Coaches Association. The Tiger seniors honored were: Second Team Mason Meschwhitz Riley Spears Mason Willard Honorable Mention Blaydn Barcak Saint Medrano

CLASS 3A-DIVISION I STATE CHAMPIONSHIP

Malakoff (15-0) vs. Franklin (14-1) at Arlington’s AT&T Stadium, 3 p.m. Thursday. LAST WEEK— Class 3A-Division I Semifinals: Franklin 52, Edna 14; Malakoff 38, Brock 31.

THORNDALE BASKETBALL

ROCKDALE— The Bulldogs were red hot coming into Rockdale last week and beat the hometown Tigers 60-38. This is a well-oiled machine, they play as a team and are well coached by Head Coach Michael Williams. It’s very hard not to be impressed.

Coaching inspirations

If you are looking for inspiration you don’t have to travel too far from Rockdale. I was fortunate to be part of the local ministerial alliance in 2017 when our Tigers won a state football championship.

MILANO BASKETBALL

The Lady Eagles went into last week with a 3-1 record but had a week filled with mixed results. Milano won against Moody 34-19 and they won their first game in the Academy Tournament against Weimar 35-23, but after that they suffered three straight losses.

ROCKDALE BASKETBALL

THORNDALE— The Tigers looked good early against the neighboring Thorndale Bulldogs in a home game. They were driving the paint and playing like men on a mission. At halftime the score was Thorndale 32, Rockdale 17.

Varsity

Thanksgiving did not slow down our men’s Tiger basketball teams. The varsity squad even got their first win of the season last week. The Tigers are now sitting on a 1-4 record for the year as district games are drawing near.
