Steve Nash ranks as one of the most underrated basketball players of my generation. His crafty passing and ability to control the pace of the game was something to be admired. Despite his many accolades, many feel that Nash lacks the credit he deserves.

Tigers rank seventh in polling

As football season inches closer, TexasFootball.com released their Class 3A Division 1 Preseason Rankings this past Thursday. The Rockdale Tigers came in at No. 7. “I’m not a big fan of rankings because they don’t mean very much,” said RHS Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Jacob Campsey.

RISD girls workouts postponed due to COVID

On Monday, RHS officials postponed girls’ summer workouts for two weeks due to an undisclosed athlete testing positive for the COVID-19 virus. The athletes will be re-evaluated upon their return.

Softball games postponed due to coronavirus case

After the Rockdale Girls Softball League (RGSL) faced the possibility of no season in April and May, they hit another bump in the road this week. The league has postponed 15 and 12 and under division games due to an undisclosed athlete testing positive for the COVID-19 virus.

Registration for golf tourney underway Golf tournament registration is underway at the Rockdale Country Club. The 13th annual Rockdale Tiger Booster Club Golf Tournament and fish fry entry is $75 per person. This includes a meal ticket for the July 11 tournament. Additional meal tickets are $15.

Together we can fight to end racism

The main headline in sports pages across the country hasn’t been about a player throwing a touchdown or making a basket, but a much bigger issue. Athletes as well as people all over the world have voiced their opinions to express their outrage on social injustice and police brutality.

Making up for lost time

After a three-month hiatus, athletics have returned to Milam county. RHS and THS both started their workouts on Monday. In Rockdale workouts had 112 kids show up on Monday. This is highest number of kids they’ve had in six years and bested the next second highest total by 30.

Once grounded, RGSL is in full swing for summer

The Rockdale Girls Softball League is officially back in action. After the COVID pandemic put this season in uncertainty, the girls returned to swinging bats and throwing strikes at Rockdale Girls Softball field last Thursday evening.

Thorndale’s White named one of top 50 players in state

Thorndale pitcher Riley White earned a spot on the Austin American-Statesman list of the top 50 Central Texas high school athletes in the state. The list published June 5 and compiled by Statesman sports writers chose Riley as the No. 42 top athlete in Central Texas.
