Thorndale drops first district game

Thorndale got their first district loss in the “Battle of 79” to Thrall in a sweep on Saturday, Sept. 8, at home. The final score was 19-25, 20-25, 23-25 for the Lady Bulldogs in a close match with their long time rival.

Eagles hang with Burton; next up, Bremond Panthers

Although the score doesn’t reflect it, the Milano Eagles football team played the 2017 state semi-finalist Burton Panthers close in their home debut, Friday, Sept. 7, losing 47-16.

Lady Eagles dominate in district matches

In their second district game and first one on the road, the Milano Lady Eagles beat the Buckholts Lady Badgers 25-9, 25-5, 25-6 on Saturday, improving their record to 14-8 on the season and 2-0 in district play.

Conversions tie up the JV Tigers

The Rockdale junior varsity football team ended their second game of the season with a tie against the Caldwell Hornets, 22-22. Rockdale got off to a quick start with a big 30-yard run by Bryce Gov-an.

Jones fifth at Tyler Lee Classic, Gutierrez ninth at Lexington meet

The Milano Eagles and Lady Eagles runners made a good showing in Lexington at the high school and junior high levels on Saturday, Sept. 8. In the varsity boy’s race, runner Andy Gutierrez placed ninth with a time of 21:26, and Cinch Pilkey placed 32 with a time of 26:23.2.

Thorndale runners make top 10

Thorndale cross country runners placed in the top 10 at the Lexington Meet on Saturday, Sept. 8. In the varsity boy’s race, Mason Drumm placed fourth with a time of 20:44.8. Five other Thorndale runners placed in the Saturday meet: 16. Ethan Ivey 22:39.5; 24. Trayle Schroeder 23:48.8; 25.

Lady Tigers pre-season finishes on high note

The Rockdale Lady Tigers finished their pre-season strong in their home victory against the Caldwell Lady Hornets on Friday, Aug. 31. The match was neck and neck but the Lady Tigers inched in the win in the first set, 25-22.

Tigers lose nail-biter; next on agenda, Caldwell

In a tense, neck and neck battle against the Giddings Buffaloes, the Rockdale Tigers came up short in the final seconds of an emotion packed season opener, losing 17-16 in Buffalo Stadium, Friday night.
