Thorndale JV wins first game of season

The Thorndale JV football team defeated Santo Wildcats (6-2A-II) with their running game on Thursday at Meridian by a final score of 44-0. “It was an overall team effort on both sides of the ball with everyone making big contributions,” said Coach Kelly Kuhl.

A shot in the dark

Agame warden received a call on Aug. 6 about a man in Titus County who had accidentally shot himself while out on his deer lease preparing for the upcoming hunting season. The man was driving his side-by-side UTV back to the house around 9 p.m. the previous night when the accident occurred.

Tigers take on the herd

The defending-state champion Rockdale Tigers will open their 2018 season on Friday at Giddings against a team that’s being led by a new head coach.

Lady Tigers go 5-1 in RHS Tournament

The Rockdale Lady Tigers were expected to play for third place in the 13-team tournament they hosted in the RHS and RJH gyms this past week Aug. 23-25, but a typo in the bracket kept the Rock-dale High School volleyball team off the court.

Eagles take the hard road

After the move up from last year’s spring realignment, the Milano High School football team was looking for a tough schedule and Head Coach Chad LaGrone got his wish. The Eagles are headed to Grape-land to play their season opener this Friday, Aug.

Lions scholarship golf scramble set Oct. 6

Rockdale Noon Lions Club will hold its 28th annual Scholarship Scramble Golf Tournament at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6 at the country club. Proceeds will go to the Lions’ scholarship fund. Allen Sanders, chairman, said the format will be men’s and women’s scramble with teams grouped by handicap.

Lady Bulldogs go 5-2 over weekend

The Thorndale Lady Bulldogs went 5-2 in the Rockdale Tournament, losing only five sets in the seven matches they played at the Rockdale High School gym Aug. 23-25. 36-31 Thorndale’s first match was a close loss against 28 Georgetown -7 Gateway College 7- Prep 6 20-25, 25-23, 24-26.
