City going with Blue Water

Blue Water is in Rockdale’s future. Rockdale City Council members, on a 4-0 vote Monday night made a major change in the city’s ongoing multimillion-dollar water system replacement project, opting to purchase outside water instead of relying on Rockdale’s iron and manganese-laden wells.

SO makes mail theft arrest

A 27-year-old Milano resident was arrested last Tuesday and charged with mail theft and fraudulent use of identifying information after the Milam County Sheriff’s Department received a tip. Justin Lee Dement is being held in the Milam County Jail in lieu of $121,000 bond.

Santa set to visit Saturday

Santa’s coming to Rockdale on Saturday. Three times. The “man in red” will appear in the morning for “breakfast withe the kids” in the Patterson Center, in the afternoon to hear Christmas wishes of children at the depot-museum and in the evening at the night-time, lighted Christmas parade.

—Precinct 1 Commissioner John Fisher of Rockdale was recognized by the Milam County Commissioners Court during their Monday morning for “his tireless work for the county.” Fisher is not seeking re-election after two terms.

The 2019 Christmas Roundup, Rockdale’s annual program to bring Christmas cheer to the less fortunate springs into full gear early next week. Sunday the Knights of Columbus Hall on US 79, east of town, will be open from 4-7 p.m. to accept toy donations and for setup.

‘Slight’ injuries from accidents

POLICE REPORT There were six vehicle accidents reported in Rock-dale during the past week, one involving a motorized wheelchair and one involving a bicycle. Police Chief Thomas Harris said only “slight” injuries were reported.
