Every possession counted for the Milano Eagle basketball team this past Wednesday in their 50-38 win at Hearne, where they beat one of Class 2A’s most reputable programs just three years removed from a state tournament appearance.

Rockdale Girls Softball sign ups on Saturday

Rockdale Girls Softball League will have a registration day this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the youth softball complex. The address of the field is 622 County Road 305 in Rockdale. The league will also have a registration date next Saturday, Feb. 5, also at the league fields.

RHS soccer teams fall short in La Vega

Tiger soccer lost 3-0 in La Vega Friday. The loss came three days after another 3-0 in Gatesville. The young Tiger squad began district play Tuesday against Hearne after press time. The Blue-and-Gold has Friday off but hosts La Grange on Tuesday evening at Tiger Stadium.

Multiple powerlifting meets in Milam County

Rockdale and Thorndale High Schools plan to host powerlifting meets in the near future. THS holds their second meet today (Wednesday) at the school’s weight room, which recently got brand new equipment. RHS has their first meet in more than five years on Saturday, Feb. 5, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

RJH eighth graders win TMS tourney

Rockdale Junior High’s eighth grade “A” team won the Thorndale Tournament, beating the hosting Bulldogs 47-46 and Mumford, 49-45, in the title game. De’andre Nunn led RJH scoring 21 in each game.

Bulldogs beat Granger, 55-33

Thorndale’s boys basketball team grabbed two district wins last week, taking down rival Thrall last Tuesday 72-50 and beating Granger 55-33 Friday on the road. The Bulldogs got off to a slow start with GHS, trailing 7-2 in the first two minutes of the game.

Rockdale’s boys powerlifting season got off to a nice start Saturday, winning the Taylor meet with firstplace finishes for Darren ter, Bryce Flowers and Gavin Cariel Aguilar and a second place finish by Kevin Liu. Dan-Gardiner and Wyatt Smith each placed third.
