Tigers begin two-a-day practices

Monday marked the beginning of a long high school football season as Tiger two-a-days got under way. Rockdale Athletic Director/Head Coach Hunter Hamrick and staff began putting the Tigers through their paces Monday morning at Tiger Stadium.

Rockdale Tiger fans three years to fifth grade can be Bleacher Creatures. For $25 they get a t-shirt, entry into varsity home games and they get to run onto the field during pregame activities through the tunnel with the actual Tigers. Sign up online via the Rockdale Tiger Booster Club.

Rockdale’s Mitchell wins Last Cowboy Standing competition

Rockdale native Ezekiel Mitchell recently won the Camping World PBR Last Cowboy Standing event in Cheyenne, Wyoming. After two nights of intense competition, the 27-year-old Austin Gamblers’ athlete went 3-for-5, out-dueling reigning PBR World Champion Cassio Dias of Sao F. de Sales, Brazil.

STATE COMPETITION

Rockdale’s Wake Swim Club sent two boys’ relay teams to the state competition in Brownsville last week. The Boys 11-12 team (top photo) finished fourth. It was made up of Stratton Masek, Milam Giles, Wyatt Glass and Hudson Bexley. The Boys 9-10 team (bottom photo) placed third.

FOOTBALL, VOLLEYBALL CAMPS

Rockdale Tiger football and volleyball coaches were out doing their thing with both current and future Tigers and Lady Tigers this week. Football and volleyball season will be here soon and we look forward to some Rockdale victories!

Former coach; recalling the SWC

BLEEDING BLUE AND GOLD Ibumped into former Rockdale State Champion Coach Jeff Miller at one of the Tiger baseball games this spring. Even with his success at Cy-Fair he is still the same humble guy. No doubt he’s one of the best in a lot of ways.

SPORTS BRIEFS

Rockdale Tiger Athletics is offering a football camp for incoming first through ninth graders from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday and Tuesday. They are also offering volleyball camp on the same days/same times for incoming third through ninth graders. Cost is $30.

Granger GOOD. Water lightly stained; 85 degrees; 1.11 feet above pool. Black bass are good to 5 pounds on spinnerbaits fished in shallow water. Crappie are good on jigs and minnows fished in 8-16 feet of water. White bass are fair on slab spoons fished over humps.
