HEWITT—Though none of the Tigers were able to qualify for state track in Austin later this month, there were some solid performances at the Class 3A Region III track meet held at Midway Panther Stadium in Hewitt, capping off an overall strong season for the Blue and Gold track program.
ALEXANDRIA, LA— Rockdale High School graduate and Howard Payne University senior golfer Brady Nelson III was named American Southwest Conference Co-Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year.
This is Nelson’s second consecutive year to receive the honors.

Tigers baseball eliminated from playoff contention
The Blue and Gold had a rough week against two tough opponents.
TROY— On April 18, the Tigers traveled to Troy to take on the district- leading Trojans and lost 11-0 in 5 innings.
Junior shortstop Mario Casarez, went for 2 for 2 at the plate.
ROGERS— On Friday, Rockdale lost at home to Rogers, 10-1.
Rockdale’s Stevens, Hicks take first place to advance to regionals
FAIRFIELD—Rockdale senior Devon Hicks and freshman De’Andre Stephens improved on their winning heights from the district meet to finish first in their events at the area meet in Fairfield on Friday.
“Devon and Dre have decent shot to get to state,” said Coach Chr is Van Cleave.
Powerlifters receive state academic honors
Rockdale High School’s Kevin Liu and Tatiana Olivares were recognized as Academic All-State Athletes in powerlifting. They both placed at the Elite level, which is the highest academic honor awarded.
COLLEGE STATION— Rockdale g i rl s’ tennis dynamic duo of Julie Bartsch and Yolianna Castillo finished third in the region last week.
The girls started the tournament hot with wins over Kerrville and Malakoff to advance to the semi-finals, where they lost to Groesbeck.
