RHS cross country slates first meet of new season Thursday

Rockdale Tiger and Lady Tiger cross country teams have their first practice at 6:30 a.m. Thursday. RHS also has their official schedule for the 2019 season. Like last year, they’ll kick off the fall with the Mud, Sweat and Cheers Relays 15 miles outside of Caldwell.

Before heading to Greensboro, N.C. for the Junior Olympics, Rock-dale’s Canaan Miles took sixth place in the 400-meter run at the Summer Games of Texas in College Station. “Canaan ran his second fastest time,” said Charles Miles coach and parent of 100 Miles and Running.

Former coach makes short stop at Brett’s to visit ex-quarterback

Local business owner Brett Boren was cooking chicken wings 15 minutes prior to Friday’s 11 a.m.opening of Brett’s Backyard Barbecue when a special visitor was waiting for food to be served. Ines Perez, the visitor, was Boren’s football coach at Round Rock High School where he played quarterback.

Arroyo places second in horseshoe tourney Taylor resident Pablo Arroyo finished the World Horseshoe Tournament in Buffalo, Tex. on Saturday with a second place trophy. According to friend Patricia Bailey, Arroyo finished the first day of the tourney at the top of the leaderboard.

Lady Tiger volleyball set to close out summer play

Rockdale’s summer league volleyball team ended their first week of play on a high note defeating Elgin junior varsity 25-8, 25-6 and Mumford 25-16, 25-17. On Tuesday, the Rock-dale girls defeated Elgin 25-18, 25-22 before beating Elgin JV again 25-21, 25-12.

Football season tickets on sale

Season ticket holders can buy their 2019 Rockdale Tiger football tickets at the RHS Athletic Office. Sales started on Monday and continue through Aug. 13. Season ticket holders can renew their season pass from 8 a.m. to 12-noon, Monday through Thursday.
