Artie Evelyn Backhaus, 104, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, died p e acefully on Tuesday, April 6, 2021. At the time of her death she was a resident of Colonial Oaks Assisted Living in Katy. She had relocated there with her husband in May 2014 to be near her children.

Alfred George Kortis Jr. died Thursday, March 25, 2021, in Bryan. Services were held Monday, March 29, at Rest Ever Memorial Park in Bryan. He was born in Caldwell on July 31, 1937. Mr. Kortis graduated from C.H. Yoe High School in Cameron.

Jimmie Richard “Dick” Tuma, 82, passed unexpectedly March 1, 2021, at his home in Gonzales. Born Dec. 22, 1938, to James Martin “Dick” Tuma and Nina Beatrice (Edelmon) Tuma, he spent his childhood until the age of 19 in Rockdale.
