HEARNE—Tuesday night’s runaway victory over Normangee was simply a means to an end for the Thorndale Bulldogs. The No. 1 ranked Bulldogs took the first step in their quest to return to the state tournament for the third consecutive season by sprinting past Normangee, 69-41, Tuesday evening.

Lady Dogs take first at Lexington tournament

AREA SOFTBALL LEXINGTON—The No. 1 Thorndale Lady Dogs jump started their season by blasting host Lexington in its own tournament in the championship game, 19-7.

Tigers dominate TSWA All-State

The Rockdale Tigers laid claim to being the best team in Class 3A with a state championship. Now, the players who led them to the summit are being rewarded. No less than six Tigers were named to the 67th Texas Sportswriters Association Class 3A All-State team.

Player of the year a unique distinction

With Torry Locklin’s recent coronation as the Class 3A player of the year, it set wheels in motion. Locklin is the first Rockdale player to be named the player of the year.

Tigers close out season

The Rockdale Tigers split their final two games in district play, but it wasn’t enough to get them in the playoffs. Coming off a victory over Rogers, the Tigers fell to Academy Tuesday night on the road 53-44. The Tigers end the season at 11-19 overall and 5-9 in District 10-3A and in sixth place.

AREA HOOPS Thorndale wrapped up its perfect district championship ledger with a couple of fairly close wins. The No. 1 ranked Bulldogs disposed of Holland 55- 0 on Tuesday after a 55- 2 win over Mumford on Friday.

Area athletes sign on the dotted line

There was a fl urry of activity for area athletes on national signing day Wednesday. Of course, Rockdale star Jaqualyn Crawford is already enrolled at Oklahoma. Torry Locklin will join Crawford in the Big 12 as a member of the Kansas Jayhawks.
