Thorndale teams leave Caldwell as winners

CALDWELL—Bulldog baseball breezed past Ganado in their series opener early Friday afternoon, throttling the south Texas school, 10-0. However, their opponents were far from finished as GHS coach Luke Barganier saved his ace pitcher Lane Benavides for game two.

Tiger Boosters hold annual tourney

Tiger boosters raised close to $15,700 at their annual golf tournament and fundraiser this past Saturday at the Rockdale Country Club. A team made up of Kirk Williams, Brady Nelson, Kaybee Nelson, Nic Evans and Spencer Evans won first out of 17 teams with a score of 54 and a prize of $750.

More than a dozen win medals for RJH

This past Saturday, 16 Rockdale Junior High student-athletes took home some hardware from the District 19-3A meet in Taylor. Gold medalists were Brody Willard, Mason Lillard, Westyn Smith, Kaylor Eschberger and Greyson Williams.

ROCKDALE JUNIOR HIGH GOLF

On Monday, RJH golfers played at the Caldwell Tournament where eighth-grader Mason Lillard won first in the boys division, shooting a 39. Seventh-grader Ali Lay also won an individual medal, placing third in the girls division with a 56.

Grice punches ticket to Austin

Winning gold in the 200-meter dash of Saturday’s finals at the Region III meet in Waco, Tim Grice became the first RHS freshman to qualify for the UIL State Track and Field meet since Jaquayln Crawford won gold as a part of the 4x200-relay team in 2015.

Tigers can’t overcome Lexington in season finale, 2-1

In what was the final high school baseball game for Tiger seniors, the Blue-and-Gold couldn’t quite overcome Lexington pitching and also couldn’t find any luck when they needed it. As a result, RHS fell 2-1 to their Lee County neighbors. “We couldn’t get that timely hit,” said RHS coach John Hooser.

McCoy, Leschber make state

For the second straight year, Thorndale’s Branson McCoy will run in the 100-meter dash at the UIL Class 2A state meet in Austin. The Thorndale senior placed second in finals of the 100 Saturday with a time of 11.

Lady Dogs oust Harper, 16-6

In similar fashion to last year, Lady Dog softball opened the post-season this past Thursday with a decisive victory over Harper in the first round. This time, they beat the Lady Horns, 16-6 in Salado. The win comes after ending their final two district games with losses.
