AUSTIN – The Thorn-dale High School softball team’s state run ended with a three-hour red hot finale loss to No. 1 ranked Crawford. Lady Bulldogs, ranked second in state, ended the season as runner up in the UIL Class 2A State Championship at McCombs Field in Austin last Thursday.

Mudbuggin’ at the Rock

The Rockdale Tiger Athletic Booster Club held their 12th annual golf tournament and crawfish boil on Saturday at the Rockdale Country Club and raised more than $9,000 that will go towards equipment, events and scholarships for Rockdale athletes.

Lady Tigers seniors make 19-3A all-district teams

Nine members of the Lady Tiger softball team were named to all 19-3A teams last week. Macy Knesek was named to the first team and Autumn Montelongo, Karley Leopold and freshman Haven Jimenez were named to the second team. Honorable mentions were Andrea Salazar, Mariana Casarez and Ryleigh Eanes.

Nelson signs to golf at Howard Payne

Former Rockdale High School golfer Brady Nelson signed his letter of intent next to his mother Sherri Nelson (left) and sister Kaybee Nelson (right) to continue to his golf career at Howard Payne University in Brownwood this fall. “It’s crazy how I ended up there,” Nelson said.

Rockdale High School tennis players Reyna Gonzalez and Devon Whitsel were recognized by the Capital Area Tennis Association with most valuable player awards at its annual banquet on Monday, May 6, in Austin. The duo won their second straight state championship on Friday, May 17.
