Thorndale’s Landry Lay-well let out a roar when she realized she won the UIL Class 2A girls singles state championship for the second time in a row. “It’s so awesome,” said Laywell, after the match. “I’ve been working all year for this and it feels amazing.

THS sweeps Comanches

The only thing that lies between the Thorndale Lady Bulldog softball team and a trip to the UIL Class 3A softball state tournament is the Weimar Lady Cats. “They are going to be solid in all facets of the game,” said Lance Betak, Thorndale High School head softball coach.

Rockdale hopes to qualify for state in 7-on-7 tourney

Rockdale’s final chance to qualify for the Texas State 7-on-7 Championships will be Saturday in Brock. The team competed in the Gatesville qualifying tournament last Thursday and although they went 2-1, did not advance out of pool play.

Perry becomes third Tiger to sign with Centenary

Rockdale High School senior Jackson Perry signed a letter of intent to continue his baseball career at Centenary College of Louisiana in Shreveport alongside his sister Elizabeth Perry and parents Lin and Diana Perry in the RHS Commons last Monday.

Tickets for RHS golf event on sale The Rockdale Tiger Booster Club Golf Tournament and Crawfish Boil is scheduled for Saturday, June 1 at the Rockdale Country Club. Entry fee for players is $100 per person and $25 for additional meal tickets. Carts will cost $10 per person.

Jones to run track at Prairie View

Milano senior and state champion Devonte Jones signed a letter of intent on Thursday to run track at Prairie View A&M University in Hempstead. “It was always my dream to play sports at the next level,” Jones said.

THS season comes to close after loss

Thorndale’s baseball season came to end with a 4-1 loss to top-ranked Big Sandy on Friday evening in Bryan. “I’m extremely proud of our ball club. Not many people had high expectations of them outside of ourselves,” said Kelly Kuhl, Thorndale baseball coach.

Gold medal performances

After the Milano High School boys track team made history in 2018 with the school’s first-ever state title in any sport, this year the team established their legacy with a second straight UIL Class 2A championship title.
