Jones to run track at Prairie View

Milano senior and state champion Devonte Jones signed a letter of intent on Thursday to run track at Prairie View A&M University in Hempstead. “It was always my dream to play sports at the next level,” Jones said.

THS season comes to close after loss

Thorndale’s baseball season came to end with a 4-1 loss to top-ranked Big Sandy on Friday evening in Bryan. “I’m extremely proud of our ball club. Not many people had high expectations of them outside of ourselves,” said Kelly Kuhl, Thorndale baseball coach.

After the Milano High School boys track team made history in 2018 with the school’s first-ever state title in any sport, this year the team established their legacy with a second straight UIL Class 2A championship title.

Dreams at state fulfilled

After finishing fourth in the triple jump at last year’s state meet, Thorn-dale High School sophomore Michael Herzog ended this year’s trip to Austin winning gold with a jump of 45-08.50. “Michael went out there and did great,” said Bobby Sugg, THS boys track coach.

Boyd gains experience in state play, sets sights on next year

Rockdale High School junior Whitley Boyd wrapped up the UIL Class 3A state golf tournament on Tuesday afternoon in Austin with a score of 92-102-194 finishing 34th out of 70 golfers playing. “I couldn’t really get anything going on Tuesday,” Boyd said.

Tiger sprinters finish sixth at UIL 3A state track meet

Rockdale’s Cam’Ron Valdez, Will Storey, Qua’Shawn Crawford and Kesean Raven ended their track season with a sixth place finish in the sprint relay with a time of 42.79 at the UIL Class 3A state track and field championships on Friday at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin.

It’s time for two

Reyna Gonzalez and Devon Whitsel look to win a second straight tennis state championship later this week in College Station after winning the Class 3A mixed doubles crown last season. “We are super excited to be back at the state tournament,” Whitsel said.

Thorndale outshines Lady Comanches

After sweeping Shiner this weekend, the Thorndale Lady Bulldogs, ranked second in state, move on to face Riviera-Kaufer in the Region IV Class 2A semi-finals, Thursday. “Riviera-Kaufer is a solid team that we will have to play well against in order to beat,” said Lance Betak, THS softball coach.
