Lions forced to improvise at tourney

Every year, the Rockdale Noon Lions Club holds a tournament at the Rockdale Country Club to help raise money for a scholarship awarded to an area student in May.

Locklin holds free football camp

What was originally supposed to be a birthday present for Luke Olivares, a seventh grader at Rockdale Junior High, ended up being a community wide event for area youth looking for something to do while out of the classroom during spring break.

Lady Tigers begin district play

With a team mostly made up of freshmen and sophomores, the Lady Tigers struggled in their first three district games with losses to Cameron, Lexington and Academy. Tuesday afternoon’s game in Florence was also a loss, but the Lady Tigers held their own in Williamson County.

More than a dozen earn district honors

Following the conclusion of Milano’s playoff run last weekend, District 27-2A picks were announced by Milano and Thorndale ISD on Facebook. Milano’s Jayce Todd was named the league’s Most Valuable Player, while teammate Layne Telg was named the Offensive Player of the Year.

RHS goes 3-0 at home

Rockdale baseball had success on their home field this weekend, going 3-0 against Troy, Manor and Holland at the Tigers’ Highway 79 Classic Tournament that they co-hosted with Thorndale. On Thursday, they opened up tourney play with a 10-2 victory over Class 2A Holland.

Nunn breaks Bassler’s record

Before heading into spring break, Rockdale Junior High eighth-grader r De’Andre Nunn finished with a gold medal in the high jump at the Taylor Relays this past Wednesday, leaping 6-2.

Local lifters headed for state meet

Last week, RHS powerlifting coach Ryan Montalvo announced via Facebook that Tiger lifters Gavin Aguilar and Kevin Liu had officially qualified for the state powerlifting meet later this month.

Lady Dogs weather the storm, 9-7

Although it was just one game, Monday night’s district softball matchup between Thorndale and Milano seemed more like a series. The game that took more than four hours to complete, thanks to a weather delay that kept being prolonged due to non-stop lightning and a little bit of rainfall.
